Frank de Boer says that ‘if Ajax believes then we have a chance’, but acknowledges the task facing his side as they welcome Real Madrid.
The second round of fixtures in Group D sees Los Blancos travel out to Amsterdam for yet another match with Ajax, who they have played at the same stage of the tournament in each of the previous two years.
De Boer’s task is to try and improve on the previous recent four meetings, which have all ended in Real Madrid victories and without the Dutch managing a single goal.
“If we believe then we have a chance. It will not be an easy task considering the results from the past,” reflected the former Barcelona defender at today’s Press conference.
“We know that Real will be a tough opponent before the first kick, but it is a fantastic experience for the players. We should do our best and play our own game.
“The matches from last year are still in my retina. Last year we also had chances and twice we could have scored.
“The one game could have ended 2-2. We had more possession of the ball and shots on goal than Real Madrid, but they were very effective. We do not have that quality.”
