Pochettino admits Espanyol worry

Mauricio Pochettino admitted after 1-0 defeat to Atletico Madrid that he is growing increasingly worried about his team’s plight.

Los Pericos sit bottom of La Liga having taken just one point from the opening six fixtures and are the only team in the division without a win, and Pochettino confessed his concern at the situation as fans called for the board’s resignation.

“It’s a difficult situation and we are worried because these things affect the players, but we must continue playing the way we did in the second half,” he told reporters.

The Argentine refused to compare the situation with when he took over four years ago but acknowledged: “we were nervous in the first half when we couldn’t find each other with the ball and hardly created any chances, although we improved after the break.”

Pochettino claimed that after the game there had been no crisis meeting between himself and the players, despite taking some time to emerge from the dressing room.

“It was the same as ever and we didn’t do anything different. When you have got nothing from the game then the best thing to do is clear your mind because confidence plays a vital role and we need to get that back.”

Questioned about his serious tone in the post-match Press conference, Pochettino blamed it on the nature of his team’s defeat.

“I’m still positive but now, half-an-hour after the game has ended, I cannot be happy. I’m worried about us collectively and we have to start winning. That’s the only thing that matters.”
