Javi Guerra: Bench no problem for me

Real Valladolid striker Javi Guerra insists it would not be a problem for him if he was relegated to the bench for Sunday’s visit of Rayo Vallecano.

The Malaga-born player has not scored in El Pucela’s opening five games this season and boss Miroslav Djukic is believed to be toying with the idea of giving Angolan international Manucho an opportunity against Paco Jemez’s men.

Nonetheless, far from being downbeat, Guerra feels it could be just the wake-up call that encourages him to improve his own game.

“I’m fine about things but losing your place in the side obviously affects you. When you don’t score goals you must be lacking something, and it’s the same in my case, but I’m not going to let it drive me crazy and I’ll continue to work hard.

I’ve no idea why I’m not playing well. If I knew I’d do something about it,” he told a Press conference.

Guerra, who was a slight doubt for the Rayo game but maintains he will be 100 per cent fit come Sunday, refuses to be anything but positive regarding his own personal situation at the Nuevo Jose Zorrilla.

“If you think about it all the time it affects you more than it should. Negative thinking is no good to anyone and you must look ahead.

“I’ve been playing up front on my own more than usual. That’s what has happened this year and I knew it wasn’t going to be easy. If you go 15 games without scoring then you should look at yourself.

“Perhaps the obsession increases but I have to try, when I play, to get shots on goal and score as soon as possible.”

The 30-year-old does, however, acknowledge he has his limitations.

“Maybe I was too eager to do well at first and took on too much responsibility, but I’m not Cristiano Ronaldo.

“I’m a normal player who has to try and do things right,” added Guerra, who concluded by saying he had not asked Djukic to give him an explanation on whether or not he would be replaced.

“I don’t expect it because I know he believes in me. I knew this could happen and now I have to prove him wrong.

“I need to show that I still have a lot to offer and can do better.”
