Xavi Hernandez admits Barcelona's eight point lead over Real Madrid is 'an advantage to be seized'.

Speaking ahead of the Blaugrana's visit to Sevilla on Saturday, the vice captain discussed the psychological implications of having such a big lead at this early stage.

“The eight points are not an anecdote, but an advantage to be seized,” he commented in an interview with Sport.

“We have done well in the League and now the pressure is on Real.”

Barca President Sandro Rosell said yesterday that the club would do everything they can to keep Xavi at the club till he retires, and the 115 times capped Spanish international certainly isn't adverse to the idea.

“My role in the team is still very important. I wish to end my career in Barcelona. Tito Vilanova has proven to be a leader, and a great footballing personality. I've played a lot of games injured in the past, but now finally I am no longer in pain.”

The 32-year-old then turned to the two hot topics of the moment, namely Lionel Messi's chances of winning the Ballon d'Or, and Brazilian sensation Neymar's prospective arrival at Camp Nou.

“The golden ball is for Messi. We need players like Neymar, who has been touched by a magic wand.”
