Real Madrid midfielder Mesut Ozil has sent a message to his fans denying rumours about his personal life.
Since he joined the Spanish champions from Werder Bremen in August 2010 the German international has had to fend off constant tales of his liking for the night life, particularly when his form has dipped as it has at the start of this season.
The arrival of Luka Modric from Tottenham Hotspur has not done him any favours as he tries to cement a place in Jose Mourinho’s starting line-up, but he has sought to put a lie to the stories.
“About the rumour I often go out at night. It's not true! I've hardly been out at all since the start of the season. I train and work professionally,” declared Ozil in four languages – Spanish, English, Turkish and German – via his Facebook account.
He was backed by readers of sports daily AS, 66 per cent of whom gave him the vote over Modric in an internet poll.
