Moya relishing Mallorca match

Miguel Angel Moya is targeting a clean sheet and improving Getafe’s League position this weekend against hometown club Mallorca.

The 28-year-old faces his local team, who he spent his youth career and the first seven years of his professional career at, this weekend in the sixth round of League action.

“It is always special to face them, because playing against my former team and it is also where I have grown up playing grassroots football,” the goalkeeper told reporters today.

“To play against Mallorca is special and one of those games that you look at on the calendar, whilst there are two or three mates still there from when I played.”

Moya arrives with his Getafe side seven points and almost the entire table behind Mallorca.

“Our goal at Mallorca is to improve our League position and not to obsess about it, but try to win. Those three points would give us breathing room, not to say that we lack that already, but it would give us extra energy.

“Mallorca are doing very well, we would like to do similarly and hopefully we can absorb some of the positive energy and get the three points.”

Moya’s defence have leaked 10 goals from their five matches played so far.

“When the goals are conceded, a percentage of them are for mistakes. We have not been fully engaged, whilst there has been a lack of concentration for some goals, whilst others have been influenced by misfortune, although we should not make excuses.

“I think when the Coach has spoken of closing the door to our goal, he is making it clear that it is down to the work of the whole team. The goalkeeper concedes the goals, but when he doesn’t it is because of the work of the entire team.

“In the defensive third my influence on the field is large and quite important, but it is still everyone’s job. We have to improve, there are no excuses for conceding 10 goals in five games.”
