Negredo, Rakitic sidestep Deportivo

Sevilla ran out 2-0 winners at the Riazor on Monday night, defeating Deportivo thanks second half strikes from Alvaro Negredo and Ivan Rakitic.

A quick start to the match saw both side exchange early chances in a solidly even encounter. The second half continued with both teams creating good chances, but otherwise failing to capitalise.

However, Negredo’s otherwise poor individual showing in the game was interrupted with the first decisive moment of the match, as he combined well with Jesus Navas to work an opening and net the opening goal of the game with 15 minutes of the encounter remaining.

That was followed 10 minutes later by Rakitic’s bizarre goal. A poor back-pass from former Sevilla man Carlos Marchena forced his goalkeeper Daniel Aranzubia into a hasty clearance that cannoned off Rakitic and into the net.
