Kanoute hopes Sevilla sustain form

Sevilla great Frederic Kanoute has commended his old club for the start they've made to the La Liga season.

Los Nervionenses visit Deportivo La Coruna this evening and could climb as high as third in the standings with a win.

“I always try to follow the team,” Kanoute told Diario de Sevilla. “I hear all the results and still feel connected with my peers.

“Sevilla have made a good start to the season and hopefully they can maintain this level for a long time. I wish them all the best for this season and all that follows.”

The Malian left Seville earlier this summer after seven years with the club, signing for Beijing Guoan of the Chinese Super League.

“My adaptation has been pretty fast, after a hectic first few weeks looking for a home, schools for the children etc,” the 35-year-old striker continued.

“Beijing is a huge and populous city, the traffic is colossal and the movement of the people on the street constant.

“I hope to win one more title before leaving football,” said the man who played an integral role in Sevilla's UEFA cup triumphs in 2006 and 2007. “There is a significant distance between the organisation of Chinese football and Spanish football, but the sport is emerging here with vigour and hope.”

Kanoute was speaking ahead of the 'Champions for Africa' charity match, which will take place at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan tomorrow evening.

“I am very pleased and grateful for the fantastic work that everyone, from the club to UNICEF to the city of Seville, has done. Not forgetting the largest contributor, which is the fans, who have responded magnificently. I hope its a great occasion because the cause is a worthy one.”
