Rayo Vallecano are confident the re-arranged game against Real Madrid will go ahead tonight, as they try to rush through repairs.
The Madrid derby had been set to take place last night but was subject to a late postponement when it was revealed that electricity cables at the Estadio Teresa Rivero had been cut.
The match has been rearranged for 7.45 local time this evening – despite Real wanting to play at 5 – and in a press conference with Rayo President Raul Martin Presa, general manager Luis Yanez has stated his belief that everything will go to plan.
“We hope to be able to do a test at 3pm, but repairs are going well.”
Presa, who used a whiteboard to draw a diagram of how the sabotage was carried out, said that investigations indicated that it was perpetrated by people with electrical knowledge, not simple vandals.
“We suffered a sabotage, an attack, a new kind of terrorism, football terrorism, that prevents citizens from freely attending a football match.
“Unfortunately, that's what happened yesterday. Unless a meteorite falls the game will go ahead” the official concluded.
