The alleged sabotage of Real Madrid’s game at Rayo Vallecano on Sunday was not the first time it has happened to Los Blancos.
In December 2004 the Santiago Bernabeu was the scene of the suspension of a match between Madrid and Real Sociedad when almost 70,000 people had to be evacuated from the stadium seven minutes before the final whistle.
It followed a warning received by newspaper Gara that a bomb was set to explode inside the ground at precisely 9pm local time, although a subsequent search revealed no such device.
There was also an incident in a La Liga game at Real Betis two years previously when current Spain national Coach Vicente del Bosque was in charge.
With the home side leading 1-0 in the second game of the season, a power failure in the 44th minute meant the stadium was in total darkness and the referee was forced to abandon the match.
