Montanier ‘amazed’ Sociedad lost

Philippe Montanier believes his Real Sociedad side controlled today’s game and kept Obafemi Martins quiet, so is amazed that Levante still won.

La Real took an early first-half lead, but were pegged back and eventually fell to a late Martins winner on the counter-attack.

“It is amazing that we lost this match,” he told reporters afterwards.

“We knew that they could steal the ball and do damage on the counter-attack, but we still lost the ball at times and one of those occasions, the last, has proved fatal.

“I think at that time they were happy with the draw and we had controlled the offensive actions of Martins.

“Ultimately, though, Levante have done enough things to win, even if we dominated possession. I’m unhappy that we lost.

“We had studied them and knew that they had come from behind against Espanyol, but we have also lost like they did.”
