Oier: Mendilibar right to criticise us

Oier Sanjurjo has backed his Coach for firing into the Osasuna players after their fourth defeat of the season on Saturday.

Jose Luis Mendilibar accused his team after their 3-1 loss at Real Zaragoza of being unable to compete in the top Division at the moment, and it was a line of thought that Oier is in agreement with.

“We agree fully with the Coach. Only an idiot would not agree with the Coach,” the 26-year-old told reporters today.

“He is in charge and we are all with him in that sense. We believe in what he wants to convey, in the style of play and in what is asked of us and we are all in this together.”

The Pamplona side are currently joint bottom of the League with Espanyol, after registering just a single point from their opening five games.

“It is undeniable that the day after the game the mood is low, but that does not mean there was a talk after the game.

“The Coach spoke to us a little, let’s be clear. Today we have also spoken before training. The captains have spoken, more was made clear, this is how you understand things better.

“Everyone has to improve a little, starting with the Coach and ending with the players. The team lacks a bit of everything and we have sinned for giving away too much when we have otherwise dominated games.

“We have not been good in defence, the middle or in attack. Eighty per cent of the goals conceded have been avoidable.”

However, it isn’t all doubts at the club, as the midfielder asserted the team can turn this around.

“We have to improve, we have the scope and capacity to do so, we have demonstrated this. There is no doubt that we can end this bad run ourselves and with our abilities. I really think we have a very good team.

“We must begin to close the gap in the table. Three points are vital in every weekend that we play and at the moment we have to start winning immediately, if not, we are doomed to suffer a lot.”
