Marchena foresees different Sevilla

Deportivo La Coruna defender Carlos Marchena expects a different Sevilla this weekend to the one that beat Real Madrid in Week 4.

“Sevilla will play with a speck less of adrenalin against us because last weekend they were very tight, playing against Real Madrid,” reflected the 2010 World Cup winner ahead of the game on Monday night.

“Against us they will also be more open, having more attempts on goal, as they are an experienced side who are strong at defending and attacking.

“Hopefully we can win but it will be a difficult task.”

The 33-year-old was full of praise for Michel Gonzalez’s outfit and in particular their striker Alvaro Negredo, but stressed Deportivo’s motivation to maintain their solid record to date.

“Sevilla are one of those that call themselves a top side. They showed that the other day, but we will be motivated to continue our form in the League and we won’t be afraid regardless of the opposition.

“Negredo is one of the most complete forwards in La Liga. It is a pleasure to mark him, but a difficult task because he is a player with good feet, he is good in the air, fast, powerful and keeps the ball well.”

Marchena spent his youth career at Sevilla before making his professional debut for the club in 1997, and he admits the visit of his former club will be an emotional reunion.

“I cannot forget my roots. I spent 10 years in Seville, debuted there and they gave me the opportunity to grow as a person and as a player so it is a special team for me.”
