Thiago: I’m fit to play 90

Thiago Alcantara has declared himself fit and ready to play 90 minutes for Bareclona on Wednesday if he is required to do so.

The youngster made his comeback from a four-month injury lay-off at the weekend to play an hour of La Blaugrana’s 4-1 win at Getafe.

Taking questions at the pre-match Press conference today ahead of the team’s debut in this season’s Champions League, the player declared himself ready to play a full match against Wednesday’s opponents Spartak Moscow.

“I’m ready to play 90 minutes, my recovery was focused on that. So no, I would have no problem in playing the whole game, but the Coach decides that,” he answered to reporters.

“I did not expect to play in the game the other day, but I know that I wanted to and that I could play a good game. I was preoccupied with making sure I did everything right and it proved so. I was happy to get the call, the atmosphere with my teammates before the game was very good.

“With this injury I gained patience, I experienced things I had not done so previously, but that makes you grow. My teammates have made everything easier. There has also been the great work from the physios and medical staff, with the utmost precautions, have helped in making my recovery very good.”

The player refused to ascertain which competition he and his teammates valued more this season, the League or European Cup.

“I think that for every team the Champions League is the most important, but we have ambition for everything. We want to play every competition wanting to win them.

“The team has won all the titles they have because of this ambition that we have. I do not want to think about the past, as it does not influence the future, tomorrow should be a good game.

“We are only thinking about that, and not about Getafe last Saturday.”

Thiago also had some words on the debate surrounding Cesc Fabregas’ form for the club at the moment.

“The debate over Cesc is totally unfair. He gives his all in training, you cannot criticise him, he has demonstrated so in his last game and for all of last season.”
