Rosell: Important to win first game

Sandro Rosell has declared that it is important to begin the Champions League group stages with a win, even more so this year as Barcelona start at home.

La Blaugrana begin their campaign to return to Wembley at the Camp Nou this Wednesday against Unai Emery’s Spartak Moscow, in a game in which their President is eyeing three points.

“It is important to start by winning,” Rosell told reporters today at the presentation of the ‘Quit smoking with Barca’ initiative, which aims to help fans of the club who can no longer smoke at the ground a way of quitting the habit.

“The first game, if you do well, makes it easier for you with the second, and it is especially important that we win because we are playing at home,” he continued on the football this week.

“Winning the Champions League is not easy, Barcelona are not taking anything for granted this year, particularly not in the Champions League.”

The President also spoke briefly on the current eight-point gap in the League his team holds over rivals Real Madrid, insisting that ‘there are still many pages to write from here to the end of the season’ and making clear that the upcoming Week 7 Clasico ‘won’t decide anything’.
