Llorente unsure of Bilbao future

Athletic Bilbao striker Fernando Llorente maintains he is still unsure of his future at San Mames.

The Spanish international came off the bench to score in Sunday’s 3-3 draw at Espanyol following a summer during which he has refused the offer of a contract extension, yet he remains unclear about where he will be playing his football next season.

“My immediate future is with Athletic and I will try to score as many goals as possible for this club,” he told a Press conference.

“When we sit down to talk in January is when we will see about my future. I can’t say where I’ll be in 2013 because I don’t know what my options are or what offers I may receive, including one from Athletic.”

Llorente celebrated his goal against Espanyol with unusual fervour and revealed it was his way of showing his frustration at recent events.

“I always celebrate my goals with passion and everything that has happened has made me even stronger.

“Right now I intend to surround myself with the people I want to be with and not read what the Press write about me.

“I’ve always been an Athletic fan and will always be one even if I don’t stay here. What I want is to help the team and it would be a very difficult decision for me, the toughest of my life, to leave the club I have given my all for and where I grew up.”
