Giovani: I am not the star at Mallorca

Real Mallorca new boy Giovani dos Santos insists he has not signed for the club to be the star man at the Iberostar Stadium.

The former Barcelona striker has been welcomed with open arms by the Mallorca faithful since his arrival from Tottenham Hotspur on a four-year deal, yet he maintains he is a team player first and foremost.

“I feel like just another member of the squad. I’m not a leader or the star who has come here to save Mallorca.

“I’m honoured that the fans are excited about me and what I can offer on the pitch, but I’ll always do what is best for the team.

“I repeat, I’m not a leader or a star but somebody who has arrived to add something to the team and help in any way I can,” he declared in an interview with AS.

De los Santos has yet to make his full debut for Los Bermellones after suffering a hamstring injury and is growing increasingly frustrated.

“The truth is that I am a little impatient because I want to get back to training and playing games with my new team.

“I’m in full rehabilitation and every day I try to rush my recovery so I can get back on the pitch.

“I came back from a hamstring strain at the Olympics but I’ve since torn it again.”

The Mexican international, 23, also commented on the speed with which his move from Spurs was wrapped up after wanting away from White Hart Lane for over a year.

“I was surprised because Daniel Levy, my Chairman at Tottenham, is a bit difficult when it comes to negotiations, as was shown with Luka Modric and other players who have wanted to leave the club.

“In my case it happened very quickly, so I have to thank the efforts made by everyone at Real Mallorca.

“When they told me the deal had been done it made me very happy,” he beamed.
