Fans to boycott Sevilla-Real Madrid

Sevilla’s fan group Los Biris have announced that they will not be attending the team’s weekend fixture with Real Madrid in continued protest.

The supporter group have clashed in recent weeks with President Jose Maria del Nido and the board for their decision to introduce stricter policing and monitoring of their behaviour.

Following on from previous protests, the group have confirmed that they intend not to occupy the area behind the north goal that they traditionally hold, for the weekend’s visit of Real Madrid.

“We communicate to members and supporters of the Biris Norte for this Saturday’s game to suspend all activity behind the Gol Norte and remain outside it,” began a statement released today.

“We record that excessive measures remain in place in the Gol Norte – removing membership status for singing against the board, members of Biris have every right to renew have been banned, and ultimately the club have placed excessive measures to restrain the freedom and expression in the Gol Norte, which has been without incident in these last few years.

“We are not responsible for verbal confrontations inside the stadium and we ask our supporters to avoid problems with other fans, to avoid further tension between sevillistas.”

Coach Michel Gonzalez earlier today appealed to the fans to get behind the team for Los Blancos’ visit on Saturday.
