Albelda out for a month

Valencia have had fears over David Albelda’s fitness confirmed today, with the news that he is out for up to a month through injury.

The player sustained a suspected hamstring injury in training on Tuesday, which tests have now confirmed.

Radiological tests carried out this week reveal that the veteran has a tear in his right hamstring that will now require a specific course of recovery.

That is expected to last between three and four weeks, but the player, who sustained the injury when sprinting in a general warm-up routine, will be assessed in 10 days to check on his progress.

The club have also lost Pablo Piatti to a two-month injury lay-off during this international break, after he required surgery on a fractured elbow sustained at training.

Fernando Gago is also a doubt for the weekend’s visit of Celta Vigo after having his return to Spain from international duty delayed because he suffered a blow to the head playing for Argentina on Tuesday.
