Former Real Mallorca defender Jose Manuel Flores, commonly known as Chico, has revealed he almost signed for Real Betis this summer.
Los Verdiblancos wanted to sign the Cadiz-born player before the start of last season and according to Chico they made him a renewed offer a couple of months ago.
However, the 25-year-old rejected the Andalusians in favour of former Mallorca boss Michael Laudrup’s Swansea City for a fee of €2m, having previously had spells with Cadiz, Almeria and Genoa
“Before signing for Swansea I was on the verge of joining Real Betis,” he admitted to Canal Sur radio.
As a result, Betis boss Pepe Mel turned to Sochaux’s French-born Polish international Damien Perquis to reinforce his defence.
