Sevilla ‘undisciplined’ last year

Alvaro Negredo suggests that Sevilla were undisciplined last season, but that such issues have now been corrected for the current campaign.

“It was a very much an undisciplined squad, but not that there was a single unruly person just things that did not add up for a good team,” commented the Spanish international to 'El Correo de Andalucia' today.

“The Coach said that we were not arrive at training on time, sometimes in the afternoon, and there were details like this that the group began to notice in the end.

“I said on many occasions: working with my teammates, having a meal together, it makes for a stronger dressing room. These are details we have now that we didn’t have last year.

“Even when Michel first arrived though, things didn’t change [last season]. He tried to change things, and quite often got angry, but things did not change.

“I think that this year, from the start, the team reacted and you can see on the field that we are helping each other, when you are a unit it is more noticeable when you play well together.”

The 27-year-old missed a penalty against Rayo Vallecano in a disappointing stalemate for his side last weekend, but put that down to bad luck.

“You miss penalties sometimes, but I have started the season scoring. The statistics are against me, but I have the confidence to take spot-kicks.”

Next weekend Sevilla will face the forward’s former club and current La Liga champions Real Madrid.

“It is a game that we will go into with a positive state of mind, knowing that it will be a difficult test, respecting our opponents.

“I think we can do damage to Madrid, depending on the intensity we put into the game. We cannot give them such space as they often have because the top teams will then kill you.

“The last two seasons we have conceded six goals at home to them and the truth is that it is not good for us or the fans.”
