Valencia’s Mestalla turf relayed

Valencia’s Mestalla pitch has been relayed ahead of the visit of Celta Vigo next weekend, after complaints from the playing staff.

The poor state of the surface for the first home match of the season against Deportivo drew several complaints from players and the claim that more than one had picked up an injury playing on it.

In response, a total of 7,500 square metres of grass was bought from Portugal, with 19 trucks needed to transport it and six days required to lay it.

Fellow La Liga rivals Malaga have had positive results from a similar herb brought in from the fellow Iberian nation, convincing Valencia’s board to purchase the grass.

The new pitch will be in ‘perfect condition’ for the visit of Celta on September 15.
