Agirretxe wants more Sociedad goals

Imanol Agirretxe is looking to improve his goal tally with Real Sociedad this season after netting twice in the opening three games.

The 25-year-old, who has been with the Txuri-urdin since he was a schoolboy, scored a double in the second match of the campaign at home to Celta Vigo and feels he is on target to beat his best-ever haul of 10 La Liga goals last term.

“My aim is to continue improving as a footballer and to score more than I did last year. For strikers goals are very important and I want to bag a lot of them.

“I don’t want to set a specific target for this year but it will be more than I have managed so far,” he told Marca.

Philippe Montanier’s men have suffered two defeats in a row on their travels, a 5-1 thrashing at Barcelona and last week’s narrow 1-0 loss to Real Mallorca, and Agirretxe believes it is becoming increasingly difficult for teams to win away from home.

“I’ll tell you something. Last weekend only two sides won away in the whole of the Primera and Segunda [Malaga and Mirandes], which shows you that it is very difficult to get points at another ground.

“However, it’s too early to make any assessment. People are talking about our away form but there have only been two games and I don’t think any conclusions can be drawn from them. Besides, one of them was at the Camp Nou.

“We know we need to improve on last year and still have plenty of time to do that,” he added.
