Varas: Valencia best of the rest

Celta Vigo goalkeeper Javi Varas claims his side’s upcoming La Liga rivals Valencia are the best team in the Division after Real Madrid and Barcelona.

“We must respect Valencia as they are very important and when you take Real Madrid and Barcelona out of the equation they are always number one,” insisted the former Sevilla shot-stopper in a Press conference today.

“Playing at the Mestalla is always difficult. If Valencia are on form they are a very strong team, they can hurt us, because we all know what they are like.

“But, if we are ourselves we can get something out of the game.”

The 29-year-old has also admitted his main objective this season is to collect as many clean sheets as possible, and is comforted by his teammates’ performances to date.

“We are a team of high quality, and usually create many opportunities in games. We should build up our attacks from the back, as that is how it is done properly in this Division.

“We have to stay positive and realize we are not inferior to anyone else, this year we can finish with a lot of points.”

Celta Vigo currently sit 13th on three points in the League table, but Varas is well aware that a string of bad results could see them fall much further.

“In terms of results we could be a little better. Away from home we can improve a lot, but it is true that our image at home has been pretty good, even if we didn’t get what we deserved against Malaga.

“At home is where we have to get the most this season,” concluded the Spaniard.
