Villa glad to be back with La Roja

David Villa’s reappearance for Spain against Saudi Arabia was nine months after his last game with La Roja, and he is glad to be back.

Villa has been sidelined since last December after suffering a broken leg in a World Club Cup game in Japan, after previously being instrumental in Spain’s World Cup and European Championship successes, and celebrated by scoring a 63rd minute penalty.

Afterwards, he declared himself delighted to have returned and says he wants to put his time out of the game behind him.

“I’m glad to be here again. I had a really bad time when I was out.

“I’ve missed being with the national team very much, the games and getting together with the squad, but I’m not going to look back” he told the TVE cameras, before acknowledging he had a fight on his hands to his place due to a resurgent Fernando Torres.

“Torres is going to get a lot more games. Right now he is going through a good patch and is a unique player for our country,” he admitted.
