Tejera: Keep the faith, Espanyol

Espanyol midfielder Sergio Tejera has urged his teammates to keep believing despite starting the season with three straight defeats.

“We are working to change the situation and we have to believe in our way of playing football, which has given us such good results in the past,” declared the former Mallorca player, who netted Espanyol's second goal in their 3-2 loss at Levante last weekend.

“I am sure we will win our next match [against Athletic Bilbao on September 16]. We still need time for the squad to get to know each other better but things will improve.

“We are capable of going on a run and climbing the table.”

After losing narrowly at Mallorca on the opening weekend of the season, Mauricio Pochettino's side have surrendered leads in defeats to Zaragoza and then Levante.

Tejera admits the side need to start performing well over 90 minutes rather than simply for spells in games.

“We have made mistakes at different times in games and that is something we need to correct," said the 22-year-old.

“We have spotted our errors several times in video sessions. We have got ourselves in front in games and then thrown away the lead, and we can't allow that to happen again.”
