Mourinho unhappy with Madrid display

Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho claimed he was still unhappy with his side’s performance despite the 3-0 win over Granada.

“I did not like the way we played,” the Portuguese told a post-match Press conference.

“We had little rhythm, no tempo and were slow. We took the points but that is not enough. We have to play much better.”

Los Blancos’ stuttering performance was far from that offered in the Supercopa de Espana clash with Barcelona during the week, something Mourinho found hard to explain after similar La Liga displays against Valencia and Getafe.

“Against Barcelona we played to our maximum but we have not done that in the League and for me it’s difficult to explain.

“I must find out what is happening because the motivation is there. Last year we always wanted to do better. It could be for reasons I have still to come across.

“I’m not saying we didn’t want to win or that a particular player had a bad attitude but I want more.

“I’m not happy because there needs to be more intensity and we have to work harder.”

Mourinho was also asked about Luka Modric’s selection as playmaker for his full Real Madrid debut, having replaced Mesut Ozil in the starting line-up.

“I contemplated playing him in other positions but he is not physically ready for that. I only put him there today because he gets time to recover. It was to be for 45 or 60 minutes and today’s game was important for him.

“Now he is off to play for his national team and we hope he continues in the same vein as he has had a lot of time without training, but he responded well,” explained Mourinho.
