Rayo Vallecano Coach Paco Jemez admits he is delighted with his side’s scoreless draw with Sevilla at the Campo de Futbol de Vallecas today.
“This point is very important. If we had played that game 50 times we would have lost 49,” asserted the 42-year-old tactician in his post-match Press conference in the aftermath of the stalemate.
“We gave away a lot, but out of this we can draw conclusions and improve, because if not then we would be annoyed.
“We are delighted. The fact is that we have taken a point against Sevilla and we have competed with them very well.
“The thing that interests me the most is that we did not make any mistakes.”
Sevilla failed to convert two penalties in the game, and Jemez knows his side will not be afforded that much luck every week.
“The fact they missed to penalties is not normal, they simply failed to convert their chances.
“We took advantage of their errors and whilst they had two penalties, they were not superior and it was a very even first half.
“I do not think Sevilla were so superior to Rayo, what I believe is that they were unable to convert chances. This is all very exciting and rewarding for us, the draw can be anecdotal or not.
“We will try to continue to compete and we now have some room to face our next fixtures calmly, but we will not give anything away and hopefully in a few weeks we can say that Rayo are still picking up points.”
Jemez reflected that whilst he was happy with the performance, he saw room for improvement also.
“I like them to do certain things and to give everything and I cannot blame anyone, but I do think that some players can still give more.
“I’m very picky, maybe I’m a demanding perfection!”
The performance of referee Carlos Gomez definitely did disappoint the Vallecano boss.
“The referee did not have many incidents to look at it, it seemed like he only had the one, where he favoured Sevilla. It is hard to compete against officiating likes this but equally, it was Sevilla who had no luck.”
