Mendibilibar: Osasuna a shadow

Jose Luis Mendilibar has hit out at his Osasuna players for being ‘a shadow’ of opponents Celta Vigo today and for ‘running around like headless chickens’.

Los Rojillos, who last week made Barcelona work hard to earn a 2-1 win in Pamplona, were defeated by two goals at Celta, leaving their Coach less than impressed.

“Usually when you play against a great team at home [Barcelona last week] you always put in a good performance even if you lose,” began Mendilibar after the defeat.

“So, to me, those games hold no value in showing what we still have to improve upon as a team.

“Today, we played for 15 minutes and the rest belonged to Celta. We got a little scared at the beginning of the match, whilst we had no consistency to our play to have any chance of winning.

“Both Celta’s goals were scored through our mistakes. On the pitch there was only one team, we were a shadow of our rivals from the 15th minute onwards.

“Often at times we were running around like headless chickens, as a group we did not function.

“Also, losing by one goal to nil is not the same as losing by two goals to nil. We have conceded six goals already this season and at the end of the campaign it will show.”
