Jemez: We’ll take the game to Sevilla

Rayo Vallecano boss Paco Jemez says his team will take the game to Sevilla in Sunday’s clash at the Campo de Futbol de Vallecas.

The Madrid side have taken maximum points from their opening two La Liga fixtures against Granada and Real Betis, with former Spanish international Jemez hoping to make it third time lucky against Andalusian opposition.

“We are not going to go out thinking only of players such as [Jesus] Navas and [Alvaro] Negredo,” he told the microphones of ABC Sevilla.

“They are a team that you can’t give anything away to and are very powerful up front, but at the back we will try to make things difficult for them.

“They are good on the attack and we will attempt to get the ball off them and create our own chances. We can’t just concentrate on stopping them from scoring.”

Perez also commented on Sevilla midfielder Javi Hervas, one of his former players at Cordoba.

“I’m glad to see him playing in La Primera as he has a lot of quality. It’s still early but I’m sure they will introduce him gradually.

“He is an excellent player and as soon as he gets more minutes under his belt I’m certain he will cement his place in the team.”
