‘Historic’ win for JIM and Levante

Levante boss Juan Ignacio Martinez called his team’s Europa League win over Motherwell ‘historic’ but is now thinking only of La Liga.

Los Granotes overcame the Scottish Premier League outfit 1-0 at the Ciutat de Valencia to record a 3-0 aggregate win and move into the group stages of the competition, with new signing Theofanis Gekas getting his first goal for the club.

Martinez put out a strong side for the game, despite the comfortable first-leg advantage, and recognised how important it was for Levante’s debut in European competition.

“It was a historic day for Levante and we carried a great responsibility, but in the end it was a fair result against opponents who were well organised,” he told a Press conference.

“This shows that La Liga was a success for us last season and we have endorsed that.

“However, although we have also accomplished something important economically, the only thing I am thinking of now is Sunday’s game with Espanyol.”
