Prosinecki cautions Modric

Former Real Madrid midfielder Roberto Prosinecki has warned Luka Modric of the demanding environment at the club.

Modric has arrived in the Spanish capital today to undergo a medical and sign a contract with Los Blancos, the summer's most protracted transfer saga having finally reached a successful conclusion last night.

Prosinecki, who plied his trade at the Bernabeu for three seasons in the early nineties, is happy for his young compatriot but realistic about the challenge that awaits him.

“Luka knows that Real Madrid have to win every day, even in training,” the former Croatian international told AS. “But they also want spectacular football. You need to win and play well.

“Entertainment and victory, that's what people expect of you,” Prosinecki continued. “If you play great and lose or draw, its worthless.”

The 43-year-old, currently without a club after leaving his post as Coach of Red Star Belgrade, believes Modric has been signed both as a partner and a successor for Xabi Alonso.

“Luka will need time to adapt, it is normal. He has fresh blood, ambition. Jose Mourinho now has a long term replacement for Xabi Alonso.”
