Mourinho: First Barca goal offside

Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho felt Barcelona’s first goal in the Supercopa de Espana clash at the Camp Nou was offside.

Asked about referee Clos Gomez’s performance, the Portuguese refused to be overly critical but believed Pedro’s equalising goal was an error on the part of the officials.

“I don’t want to criticise vital decisions all season, even less so in the second game [of the season],” said Mourinho in declarations to AS.

“In general I liked the match, but what I did not like was Barcelona’s first goal because it was an error by the referee’s assistant.”

Mourinho was asked if the heat and a demanding pre-season had been a factor in his side’s performance, particularly in the first half.

“The heat is the same for everyone, not just us. We prepared for this in more rigorous and difficult climates than what we encountered here and in Madrid last week.

“In the second half we played differently but I can understand the theory of the heat, although after the break the response was different.”

The former Porto, Chelsea and Inter boss also thought things did not quite go to plan.

“I was not happy with the opening 45 minutes as sometimes you have to play in a way you don’t want to. Our opponents forced us to change our game plan.

“Barca played well, pressed a lot and didn’t allow us to come out with the ball and attack them. We controlled the space around our defence quite well but they were superior in the first half.

“It might have appeared our plan was to be defensive but it was not.

”We showed from the first minute of the second half we wanted to do something different, and that is what you saw,” he added.
