Rayo ‘must aim to beat Betis’

Ruben Martinez knows that it will be tough to stop Real Betis’ strikeforce, but he is urging his Rayo Vallecano teammates to target a win on Saturday.

The goalkeeper made his debut for the Vallecanos last weekend in the last-gasp home win against Granada and is intent that the club follow that up away to high-scoring Betis.

“We won the first match against Granada and it is always important to start with a win,” he asserted today.

“Now against Betis we need to go all out and try to bring home another result. Certainly, if we get three points then that would be an excellent start.

“Against Granada the important things was that we won. That we did it in the last minute gives more joy and personally, I always like a clean sheet, so it was a good debut for me.”

The ‘keeper refuted claims that Betis would be weakened by the enforced absence of striker Ruben Castro.

“If there is no Ruben Castro then they will have another player, Betis have enough quality and we will have to worry about any of their players who start instead.

“Without Ruben Castro they have Jorge Molina, and we will have to give him equal or more attention.

“However, we are not afraid, they are a team that has a lot of quality players and are capable of scoring goals. We respect Betis, but as we respect every opponent.”
