Pizzi: Valencia will be tough

Pizzi has pulled no punches in warning his Deportivo teammates of the difficulty that awaits them this weekend away to Valencia.

Depor won their opening day fixture at home to Osasuna, but must now travel to their rivals Los Che in the second round in a game that former Atletico Madrid man Pizzi is clear in saying will be tough.

“Valencia are a great team in Spain, they were third last year, they have players of great potential, they are very good in attack and we know it will be difficult to score against them,” mused the midfielder at today’s media conference.

“However, we go there with the intention of winning the game and to contribute to a great game.

“I know of the big rivalry with Valencia for the championship in 1994 that Deportivo did not win, and we will try to make things right, win the game and bring joy to the fans.”

Attention since the side’s impressive promotion campaign has centred pre-season on their style of play and whether it will be maintained upon their return to the top flight.

“The way we play at home and away has to be different. Opponents tend to have more of the ball when they are playing on their pitch.

“We are going to try to be compact and to not leave much space, to then harm them on the counter-attack and in a continuous way.
