Espanyol trio ‘progress favourably’

Espanyol’s trio of Raul Baena, Sergio Garcia and Diego Colotto, who all suffered the same injury this month, are progressing favourably in rehabilitation.

In a somewhat freak occurrence, all three players suffered fractured metatarsals in their feet during pre-season and within a matter of days of each other.

Defender Colotto broke the fifth metatarsal in his left foot during the club’s friendly with Gimnastic Tarragona at the start of August. Sergio Garcia then followed that up three days later with a broken fifth metatarsal in his right foot playing against Montpellier.

Baena then fractured the second metatarsal of his left foot some nine days after that in a friendly with Zaragoza.

All three are described today by the club to be progressing favourably towards recovery, with only Garcia still wearing a cast and the other two now able to walk free from crutches.

Baena and Colotto are expected back at the end of September, whilst Garcia should be back a week or two after them.
