Valencia aim a ‘step further’

Valencia’s attacking midfielder Jonas has revealed that the club’s ambitions this year are to go a step further than what was achieved last season.

Los Che have finished third in the League for the third consecutive season last year, whilst they also saw them knocked out of the Europa League and Copa del Rey at the semi-final stage.

“We are working to go one step further than last season, we have all started very motivated and we have to continue like this until the end,” Brazilian Jonas promised the assembled media today.

“President Manuel Llorente is pushing us to achieve our objectives, he was excited about the draw against Real Madrid.”

It was a result earned in part thanks to Jonas’ equalising header.

“I am happy to have scored the first goal of the season, helping the team to earn a point at the Bernabeu, where it is difficult before the champions. It would only be a really good point, though, if we win against Deportivo [next weekend].”

The player is also excited for the new free role in the team Mauricio Pellegrino has handed him.

“My features are not to only score goals, but to provide assists and create opportunities for my teammates.

“Tactically, on the defensive side I have less work now, but I have to work hard when we have the ball, I have freedom to do what I want because I am there when we have it to create and help the team.

“It would be important for me to score more goals this year than last.”
