Xavi Torres: I’m in the perfect place

Getafe's Xavi Torres believes he is in the right place to mature as a player, after completing a move from Malaga in June.

The 25-year-old spent the last two seasons on loan at Levante, but subsequently turned down a permanent transfer to Juan Ignacio Martinez’s side to sign for Getafe this summer.

Torres had been linked with Everton in the past, but is delighted to have arrived at the side from the outskirts of the Spanish capital.

“I feel no pressure,” the combative midfielder told reporters at his presentation.

“I am very much settled and calm here in Madrid, especially since this is where I wanted to move.

“I chose the club for many reasons, the first being I have always held much affection towards it.”

Torres also has high hopes for what the Azulones can achieve this season and he has set personal goals he wishes to accomplish by May.

“We will fight collectively in the dressing room to finish in the top half of the table, that is our priority and I know we can reach it. I would like to be a part of that, while scoring as many goals as possible.”

Torres made his debut in the 2-1 loss to Sevilla last weekend, and spoke of the big test that awaits them this week against defending League champions Real Madrid.

“Real Madrid are an excellent team, but they will be fatigued after their Super Cup game against Barcelona during mid-week.

“We will need to capitalise on that if we are to have any chance of winning.”
