Pepe grateful for support

Pepe has thanked everyone for their messages of support in the past few days and has promised to be back playing very soon.

The defender was involved in a clash of heads with teammate Iker Casillas when trying to defend a set-piece in Real Madrid’s opening game of the season at home to Valencia.

Forced off at half-time, the 29-year-old spent the night in hospital before undergoing several routine tests on a head injury.

Now discharged, the player’s condition is described as ‘very good’, but he is unlikely to feature in Thursday’s Super Cup, having missed training today.

“I want to say thank you for the many expressions of support I have had in the last few days,” the Portuguese defender stated today via the club’s official website.

“I’m flattered by the encouragement I have had since Sunday, especially from the Real Madrid fans, who are in my heart.

“Very soon I will be in perfect shape to continue fighting for our shirt and our club.

“In this sense, the continued support for my teammates, Coaches, directors and employees of our club is very important.

“I want to also thank in particular the doctors of our team, who have been at my side at all times.”

Players from opposition clubs, such as Gerard Pique, sent their support to the player over the weekend.

“I also want to move to say thank you to all those colleagues from other clubs in various ways were concerned with my health. Grande gestures are not forgotten, a big hug for everyone.”
