Osasuna close to Annan deal

Osasuna are close to securing the loan services of Schalke midfielder Anthony Annan, reports Noticias de Navarra.

Boss Jose Luis Mendilibar has confirmed his interest in the Ghanaian international after being frustrated in attempts to sign Rayo Vallecano’s Javi Fuego.

Mendilibar has been searching for a successor to the departed Javad Nekounam, who has returned to his native Iran to join Esteghlal.

Annan is not part of the German club’s plans for next season and any move will now be down to the former Rosenborg player, who has represented his country 56 times and came to prominence at the 2010 South African World Cup.

The 26-year-old is understood to be interesting a number of clubs and Mendilibar has been attempting to keep his interest under wraps – although without too much success.

“This has come out quickly! Somebody must have let their tongue slip,” he said jokingly.

“We will have to wait and see if he comes, but if he doesn’t then we’ll have to be happy with what we’ve got.”
