Djukic: Valladolid deserved win

Real Valladolid boss Miroslav Djukic thought his team was good value for their 1-0 success at La Romareda against Real Zaragoza.

Oscar’s goal on the stroke of half-time made it a winning return to La Primera for El Pucela, and they could even afford the luxury of a second-half penalty miss after Roberto turned Victor Perez’s spot-kick onto a post.

Serbian Coach Djukic, obviously delighted, believed it was a deserved success.

“It was a game that lacked freshness but we warranted the victory,” he told a Press conference.

“We began with a little trepidation but as time passed we became more focused.

“After the first 15 minutes we managed to get hold of the ball and played well on the counter-attack.”

The 46-year-old felt winning the first game of the new La Liga season has given his players more confidence and will help to settle them down as they look to gain a foothold in the division.

“We must learn how to adapt to the way our opponents play.

“It was our debut in this League and we knew it would be difficult, but we were strong in defence and I’m happy with the work the team put in after an enormous physical effort, although we didn’t play as we usually do.

“However, we were worthy winners and did a good job of closing them down.”
