Albiol: Real will improve

Raul Albiol has reassured Real Madrid supporters that the side will improve after dropping two points on the first day of the season.

The team, who won last year’s League title with a record points tally of 100, have begun their defence with a draw at home to Valencia on Sunday evening.

“We had chances to win the game. This is just the beginning and we must continue,” reflected the centre-back post-match.

“Furthermore, Valencia often play great games at the Bernabeu. The team is secure and hopefully we will improve and from now on finish games with three points.

“It was a shame not to win after the great second half we played. The League opener is always complicated, teams lack rhythm.

“The target is to win the championship and for that we need to achieve more than 90 points. Much work remains ahead.”

Albiol came on as a substitute at half-time, replacing Pepe, who was forced off with a head injury after accidentally colliding with Iker Casillas at the set-play Valencia equalised from.

“I entered the pitch for a teammate and he is not well. I hope he recovers.

“I felt comfortable and it was a shame not to achieve a victory.”
