Sevilla fans protest security

A group of 100 Sevilla fans protested outside the stadium before tonight’s League opener against Getafe, for in-ground security introduced.

Members of the supporters’ group Biris gathered in front of the main entrance to the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan tonight to welcome the players into the ground, but they also aimed chants at President Jose Maria del Nido, before opting not to attend the game.

This is understood to be in protest to Sevilla’s decision to add extra security and control measures at the ground on match days, specifically in the area behind the north goal that Los Biris occupy, due to several reported violent actions from the supporter group in recent seasons.

Los Biris’ last notable action was a protest aimed at the Spanish League for delaying their match against Levante last season so as to broadcast Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola’s post-Clasico Press conferences instead. Fans threw hundreds of tennis balls on to the pitch, delaying play at their home ground for several minutes.
