Olinga breaks La Liga record

Fabrice Olinga has become the youngest ever goalscorer in La Liga’s history today with a match-winning goal for Malaga at Celta Vigo.

The 16-year-old Cameroon player was named in Manuel Pellegrini’s matchday squad due to the lack of numbers otherwise available to the Chilean in light of the club’s summer transfer ban.

With half an hour of action to play, the teenager, who is a graduate of Samuel Eto’o’s football academy, was introduced as a substitute, becoming the fifth youngest player to ever appear in the Spanish top flight and Malaga's all-time youngest representative.

However, the youngster with No 45 on his back, then got on the end of Diego Bounanotte’s cross in the 83rd minute to poke the ball over the line and make further history by breaking Iker Muniain’s record as Spain’s youngest top-flight goalscorer.

With the first goal of the 2012-13 season, Olinga becomes La Liga’s all-time youngest footballer to have scored a goal, aged 16 years and 98 days. Muniain's record had stood at 16 years and 289 days old.

Malaga held on to win the opening game over Celta Vigo 1-0.
