Rayo fans to boycott La Liga opener

Part of Rayo Vallecano’s support have decided to boycott the La Liga opener against Granada at the Campo de Futbol de Vallecas.

Fans are unhappy at the game kicking off at 9pm local time on Monday night and have shown their displeasure by announcing via a statement that they will not be attending the game.

The club’s most numerous and vociferous section of fans, the Bukaneros, say they ‘reject Monday night football’ and will not be supporting their team ‘in solidarity with those from Rayo and Granada who are prevented from going to the stadium because of the start time’.

At the same time, they have also shown their discontent with Rayo President Raul Martin Presa, who they accuse of not defending the interests of the club.

“There have not been any declarations or protests on the part of the President, Martin Presa, which is a sure sign that he prefers to kneel before the person who truly rules our club, who his none other than the mobster Javier Tebas [Vice-President of the Spanish League], read the texted statement.

“Football does not belong to the television or the mafia. It belongs to the people.”
