Stuani candidate for Depor No 9 shirt

Uruguayan striker Cristian Stuani has emerged as the leading candidate to wear the Deportivo de La Coruna No 9 shirt next season.

The 25-year-old still has one year left on his contract with Reggina but has been loaned out for the past three seasons to Albacete, Levante and Racing Santander.

The Italian outfit now want to sell him and, according to AS, Depor are ready to negotiate a deal to take him off their hands, either on another loan arrangement with an option to buy or for a reduced transfer fee.

Stuani scored 23 Segunda goals for Albacete in the 2009-10 season earning him a loan move to Levante the following year, where he notched eights goals in 30 Primera appearances – making him the club’s second-top scorer – despite playing second fiddle to Felipe Caicedo.

He remained in Spain for the 2011-12 campaign with Racing and contributed nine goals in 32 La Liga outings as the Cantabrians finished bottom of the table.

Other Depor targets have included Almeria’s Leonardo Ulloa and Atletico Madrid’s Diego Costa, yet club President Augusto Cesar Lendoiro has now set his sights on the more affordable Stuani.
