Levante confirm Gekas signing

Levante have announced via the club’s official website that they have signed Greek striker Theofanis Gekas.

The 32-year-old arrives at the Ciutat de Valencia on a free transfer from Turkish side Samsunspor and is seen as a direct replacement for Arouna Kone, who is understood to be on the verge of signing for Premier League Wigan Athletic.

It will be Gekas’ first experience of Spanish football, having previously been top goalscorer in both the Greek League and Bundesliga during spells at Panathinaikos and VfL Bochum.

Gekas, who signed for Eintracht Frankfurt in May 2010 but left last January to move to Turkey, is dubbed the Greek God by fans in his native country.

He holds 62 caps for Greece with 22 goals and will pen a one-year deal with Juan Ignacio Martinez’s outfit alongside an option for a further season, should both parties still be happy with the arrangement.
