Capdevila blasts Benfica

Espanyol’s Joan Capdevila has fired a broadside at Benfica and says he could have been treated better by the Portuguese giants.

The former Spanish international, 34, joined the Eagles from Villarreal last summer but started only five League games last term before returning to his first professional club Espanyol last month.

“I always worked to the maximum, did not cause any problems and gave my best. “However, the Coach Jorge Jesus never counted upon me. I think I could have been treated differently but I don’t want to point the finger at anybody,” he told Portuguese newspaper Record.

‘Things did not go according to plan but Benfica offered me my first experience of playing abroad and I made some good friends.

“I had some great teammates and there were other people at the club that helped me a lot and I thank them all,” said Capdevila, before insisting that all his thoughts now are concentrated on helping Espanyol.
