Former Real Madrid player Guti – real name Jose Maria Gutierrez – has declined an offer from River Plate for next season.
The 35-year-old recently announced his retirement following his release by Turkish side Besiktas last November after the appointment of new boss Carlos Carvalhal, but now appears to have changed his mind although he does not want to move to South America.
“I will not be playing for River Plate and the truth is that playing in Argentina does not appeal to me, although I thank them for their interest.
“My desire is to play in the United States, Qatar or Dubai, which are my preferred destinations,” Guti revealed via his Twitter account.
River Plate, who have recently returned to the top flight in Argentina after a one-year absence, are understood to have offered Guti a one-year contract after being informed that his partner Romina Belluscio would look favourably upon a temporary return to her native country.
The Madrid-born player has had a magnificent career since his debut for Real’s C team in 1994, picking up five La Ligas, three Champions Leagues, two Intercontinental Cups, one European Super Cup, four Supercopas de Espana and a Turkish Cup.
During that time he has appeared in 582 official games – 542 with Real Madrid and 40 with Besiktas – and scored 89 goals, 77 for Los Blancos and 12 in Turkey.
