Maicon rejects Anzhi hoping for Madrid

Inter defender Maicon has rejected a lucrative offer from Roberto Carlos' Anzhi Makhachkala in the hope of a move to Real Madrid.

The Brazilian has turned down the Russian club as he still dreams of wearing the white shirt of Real Madrid, reports AS, particularly since Inter have made their interest in Los Blancos midfielder Nuri Sahin known in the last few days.

However, Madrid President Florentino Perez is understood to be reluctant to sign Maicon as he considers him too old at 31, despite Inter in line to receive a reduced figure of €6m plus Sahin on a season-long loan, after which the Italians would retain the option to buy him for the €13m the Spanish giants paid Borussia Dortmund last summer.

Maicon is already believed to have given the nod to a reduction in salary and is willing to sign a two-year contract at €3.6m-a-year, a figure AS claims is €1.4m less than he earns at the San Siro.

The player’s representatives are due to travel to Spain in the hope of concluding a deal before Jose Mourinho’s men embark on their pre-season tour of the United States, although club sources consulted by AS insist no agreement is likely as the right-back position is covered by Alvaro Arbeloa, Lassana Diarra and the recently-arrived Fabinho.
